CPA’s Legislative Advocacy Fellow
Gain public policy learning experience and use psychological science to influence government at the state and federal level.
Eligibility:

Enrolled as a doctoral student in psychology (from an APA-accredited doctoral program or internship).

– OR – Have a doctorate in psychology (from an APA accredited doctoral program).Â

Be a member of CPA (or applicant for membership).

Able to attend weekly Legislative Committee meetings on Monday mornings at 8:30AM
Position Description:
The CPA Legislative Advocacy Fellow will be involved in the following ways:

Attend weekly CPA legislative committee meetings. Weekly during the Legislative session and biweekly in the off months.

Write up legislative briefs to go out to members as needed. Â

Draft content for social media messages.

Serve on team sending out messages on Voter Voice when we need members to contact their legislators. Â

Learn how to write testimony in response to proposed bills and gather testimony from members.

Have the opportunity to testify before the CT Legislature.

Draft surveys to collect data and/or gauge interest from members related to priority areas for advocacy.

Organize annual Legislative Breakfast.

Receive support and mentorship from CPA staff and leadership.
Ideal candidatesÂ
-
Demonstrate excellence in scientific and/or professional psychology.
-
Demonstrate knowledge of policy issues.
-
Have a strong interest in applying psychological knowledge to the solution of societal challenges.

Are able to work quickly and communicate effectively on a wide variety of topics and be able to work cooperatively with individuals with diverse viewpoints.
