Drawing on first-person accounts and interdisciplinary research\, the presenter will critically examine prevailing recovery-oriented models and explore their strengths and limitations in understanding psychotic experiences. Particular attention will be given to how psychological\, philosophical\, and spiritual frameworks can contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of disruption\, recovery\, and human flourishing. \nParticipants will explore the role of therapeutic relationships\, communication\, and meaning-making when working with individuals who experience psychosis\, including the potential relevance of spiritual and existential themes in assessment and treatment. The presentation will also examine how phenomenological perspectives may complement traditional clinical approaches and inform person-centered care while remaining attentive to professional ethics\, cultural considerations\, and individual differences. \nThis intermediate-level program is appropriate for doctoral-level psychologists and other behavioral health professionals who assess and treat individuals experiencing psychosis. The presentation critically evaluates recovery models\, integrates phenomenological scholarship with clinical literature\, and explores how these perspectives may complement evidence-based psychological assessment and intervention to support ethical\, person-centered care. \n\nLearning Objectives:\nAt the conclusion of this presentation\, participants will be able to: \n\nDescribe at least three principles for communicating with individuals experiencing psychosis that support collaborative\, person-centered clinical relationships.\nIdentify at least two strengths and two limitations of contemporary recovery-oriented models as discussed from phenomenological and philosophical perspectives.\nExplain at least two ways that spiritual or existential themes may influence the assessment\, treatment\, or recovery process for individuals experiencing psychosis\, consistent with culturally responsive and ethically informed psychological practice.\n\nResearch Citations\n\nFeyaerts\, J.\, & Kusters\, W. Moravecek\, Psy.D. \nHealthcare for those in the military is quite different than it is for civilians. While everyone in the military is afforded healthcare\, access to services and how these services impact one’s career present may challenges to service members. For clinicians working with veterans and service members these challenges are important to understand and consider in treatment planning. While service members are generally healthier than the general population\, health concerns can arise following deployment and throughout one’s career. For service members who have accessed these services\, including behavioral health treatment\, the nuances and unique aspects of the healthcare environment is an important component of the military experience and essential for understanding for cultural competency. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Friday\, November 6th 2026 - In Person\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n 7:45 am – 8:45 am:\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n7:45 am – 3:00 pm:\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n9:00 am – 9:30 am: \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n9:30 am – 10:30 am:\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Registration & Networking Breakfast – Meet Division Representatives\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nPoster Session\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresident’s Welcome & Annual Business Meeting –\nKate Patterson\, Psy.D.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Keynote Presentation (1 CE)\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n 2.  The New Landscape of Adolescent Addiction: Social Media and Vaping.  Presented by: Grace Kong\, Ph.D. \nAdolescence is a critical developmental period when addictive behaviors take root and cause mental health harm.
