Abstract:
This presentation will review recent research on psychological resilience, focusing on a range of factors that support adjustment and growth following stress exposure. The presentation will draw on work done with healthcare workers, 9/11 first responders, and veterans; as well as neuro-imaging studies with a wider range of trauma-exposed samples. With respect to intervention, the presentation will review the results of several psycho-educational programs with New York City community members and healthcare workers. Novel measurement strategies, as well as the work of a Center at a major New York City health system focused on resilience and mental health, will also be discussed.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the presentation, participants will be able to:
1. Participants will critically evaluate at least 3 definitions of psychological resilience.
2. Participants will describe 10 factors that support individual and community resilience following stress exposure.
3. Participants will evaluate outcomes of at least 2 resilience building interventions deployed with healthcare workers and community members.
