This presentation will address supporting individuals living with invisible disabilities, intersectional identities and address disparity within the healthcare system. I will describe how living with these concerns can impact the relationship between patient and provider and affect medical trauma for some individuals. I will also provide information on how psychologists can support these individuals to minimize disparities and collaborate with their healthcare team, including ethical considerations.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of the presentation, participants will be able to:

1. Identify at least 4 invisible disabilities, defining what is meant by invisible.

2. Define what is an intersectional identity and provide at least 2 examples.

3. Explain at least 3 ways disability and identity affect disparities in care.
