Presentation Abstract:
Functional Neurological Disorders (FND), formerly known as conversion disorders, represent a complex intersection of neurology and psychology. Despite their prevalence and impact, FND remains often misunderstood within clinical practice, leading to misdiagnosis, patient stigma, and fragmented care. This CE aims to provide a deeper understanding of the spectrum of FND, highlight the biopsychosocial framework, and discuss the evolving perspectives from neuroscience and clinical psychology.
Learning Objectives:
1. Describe 3 sub-classes of FNDs and how they are differentiated.
2. Explain at least 1 of each of precipitating and perpetuating factors that are common across FNDs.
3. Learn at least 2 appropriate resources for communicating effectively with patients and providers.
