Abstract:

Neuropsychological assessment can be most useful for patients with disabilities, while these patients may also experience some of the greatest barriers to accessing neuropsychological services. This presentation will address how neuropsychologists can improve accessibility of their services and practice, ranging from the practical aspects of neuropsychological care to addressing and improving systemic factors that may apply within institutions to private practice settings. The 2022 APA Guidelines for Assessment and Intervention with Persons with Disabilities will be reviewed as relevant.

Learning Objectives:

  1.  List at least 2 common modifications that can be made to their assessment process to increase access for individuals with disabilities

  2. Identify at least 2 common systemic barriers that can decrease accessibility and demonstrate a legal framework for decreasing barriers

  3. Explain at least 2 relevant portions of the 2022 APA Guidelines for Assessment and Intervention for Persons with Disabilities for neuropsychologists
