Presentation Abstract:

This workshop will provide a comprehensive look at the process of attaining board certification in forensic psychology through the American Board of Professional Psychology. First, the benefits of board certification will be explored. Participants then will be guided through each phase of the application process, using example examination questions, report checklists, and evaluation rubrics to reduce the mystique of the process. Common pitfalls encountered by candidates will be explored, and strategies for avoiding them discussed, in an effort to improve candidates’ overall work product and likelihood of success in becoming board certified.

Learning Objectives:

List at least three (3) benefits of acquiring board certification in forensic psychology.
Describe the four (4) steps involved in board certification in forensic psychology and the parameters that govern each step.
For each step of the process, identify at least one (1) common pitfall encountered by candidates and (1) strategy for how to avoid such.
