Psychologist, Social Worker, Counsleor
Connecticut College Student Counseling Services (SCS) is pleased to announce a full-time (37.5 hours), academic year (40/42 weeks) counselor position. In addition to having general expert knowledge of mental health and psychological functioning, this position requires experience with and proficiency in providing mental health to college students. Candidates will need general competence in providing psychotherapy and addressing issues and aspects of identity within the context of psychotherapy and affirming care. The counselor will report directly to the Director of Student Counseling and Health Services.
This position involves diagnostic assessment and treatment, as well as consultation, crisis response, outreach, administration, and clinical supervision for the training program (practicum students). The ideal candidate will bring experience in affirmative, sex-positive, and culturally responsive counseling, with a commitment to supporting self-determination, exploring intersections of identity, and fostering an inclusive and affirming campus environment. Will have experience in counseling that promotes self-determination and addresses issues of sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and the intersection of these aspects of identities with other categories such as race, class, and religion, as well as physical functioning.
The counselor will (preferred) have completed an APA-approved doctoral degree in Clinical/Counseling Psychology and an APA-approved internship; or, have completed an accredited Social Work master’s or doctoral program, with an internship. The candidate must be licensed in the state of CT within their discipline. Experience working in a college counseling setting or with emerging adults is preferred. Excellent professional, interpersonal, communication (both oral and written), and evidence-based counseling skills are required. Experience in the clinical treatment of neurodivergence, trauma, eating disorders and other college mental health issues, along with experience and training in supervision are beneficial. Successful candidates will demonstrate expertise in one of the above mentioned focus areas and have an investment in developing further clinical expertise.
